An Equity & General financial planner with a client

How an introduction works

From the moment you notice on a case file to the advice being in place and the income coming back to your firm.

All pension, investment and estate planning advice is given by Equity & General (FCA No. 474163).

The five steps

1
Your firm

You see the moment

A completion with no protection behind it, a fixed rate ending, a client selling up, a portfolio landlord with a growing tax bill. It is on the case file you already hold.

2
Your firm

You offer the introduction

One sentence, in approved wording for that situation, and the client’s consent recorded. You carry on with the mortgage and the protection.

3
Equity & General

Equity & General gives the advice

A qualified financial planner meets the client, carries out the fact-find and makes the recommendation on pensions, investments or the estate, under Equity & General’s FCA permissions.

4
Your firm

You see the outcome

The partner portal tracks every introduction from the first conversation to the advice being put in place.

5
Your firm

Your firm shares in the value

A share of the initial income, and of the ongoing value of the assets under advice for as long as the client stays advised, on terms agreed in writing first.

Who advises on what

The subject of the advice decides who gives it. Pensions, investments and the investment side of estate planning sit with Equity & General.

Your firm

  • Mortgage advice and arranging, under your existing permissions
  • Protection advice where your firm already holds that permission
  • Describing what you can see on the case file
  • Offering the introduction, and making it
  • Staying involved and seeing the outcome

Equity & General

  • Pension advice, including consolidation and transfers
  • Investment advice and ongoing portfolio management
  • The investment side of estate and inheritance planning
  • The suitability report and the regulatory responsibility for it
  • Answering “what would you do with it?” about anything outside mortgages and protection

If your firm is an appointed representative of a network, check what your network agreement allows before making introductions outside it.

The first ninety days

Your firm can make its first introduction in the first month.

Week 1

The agreement

An introducer or partner agreement between your firm and Equity & General. Your own permissions, your network arrangements and your professional indemnity cover stay as they are.

Week 2

Your financial planner

You meet the Equity & General financial planner matched to your firm and agree which clients to start with.

Weeks 3 to 4

Your advisers

An hour with your mortgage advisers on the moments to look for, the wording to use and where regulated advice starts.

Month 2

First introductions

Two or three clients you already had in mind. You can sit in on the first meeting with the financial planner.

Month 3

The review

What was introduced, what was recommended and what came back to your firm. Then you decide how widely to use the partnership.

After that

Part of every case

Introductions come out of the completions, product transfers and annual reviews your firm already handles.

What Equity & General does after the introduction

The financial planners

Qualified financial planners meet your clients, carry out the fact-find and make the recommendation. The same planner works with your firm each time.

The compliance

Suitability reports, Consumer Duty evidence, the compliance file and the professional indemnity cover behind the advice.

The administration

Applications, provider paperwork, transfers and the annual review, handled by Equity & General’s administration team.

Marketing support

Client material your firm can use, reviewed by Equity & General compliance before it goes out in your name.

The partner portal

Every introduction tracked from the first conversation to the advice being put in place, with the stage each client has reached.

Mortgage placement

Your firm can also place mortgage business through Equity & General on comparable terms.
